Located at the intersection of Henri-Bourassa and Saint-Michel Boulevards, this 50-unit rental building establishes a connection between two urban contexts with distinct identities.
Its volumetric composition orchestrates a succession of scales and materialities that anchor the project within its surroundings. A six-storey main volume responds to the eclectic character of Henri-Bourassa Boulevard, while a red masonry volume extends the built presence of Saint-Michel Boulevard. Between the two, an intermediate white masonry volume acts as a hinge, mediating these two distinct contexts.
At ground level, the building setback extends the pedestrian realm, creating a welcoming threshold between the public realm and the residential spaces, while recessed alcoves provide protected outdoor spaces that establish a gradual transition between the privacy of the residences and the presence of the boulevard.
Through the dialogue it establishes between scale, materiality, and transitional spaces, the project contributes to the continuity of Montréal-Nord’s urban landscape while asserting a distinct architectural identity.
