The renovation and extension project builds on the existing heritage cottage and its shed, both located within the heritage site of the Ancien-Village-de-Rivière-des-Prairies.

Its off-axis rectangular volumes and low profile along the boulevard keep the building modest and deliberately understated, reinforcing the village character of the area. Rather than meeting the setback the zoning prescribes, the house steps back from Boulevard Gouin: this setback opens up the neighbouring house at 10110-10112 Gouin Est, itself a heritage building, letting the character of the street breathe and contributing to the enhancement of that property.

Masonry grounds the lower level and a lighter cladding wraps the storey above, where narrowed openings on the north face preserve the punched character of the original windows.

Inside, a slot of light splits the ground floor: the front volume echoes the proportions of the original cottage, while the upper floor recalls the shed.

The landscaping carries the same restraint. Two trees near the house will mature to anchor the project in the area, set against a low planting of lawn and grasses.
